Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th November 2020 Message:
Jeremiah recounts the pitiful conditions of Judah and Jerusalem after the Babylonian destruction and pleads with the Lord to remember his people. Read vv.1–14 again and note how extensive the sufferings of the people were that prompted Jeremiah to plead with God: they were homeless (v.2), fatherless (v.3), persecuted and mocked (vv.5–8), hungry and hopeless (v.10), women were molested (v.11), the princes were maltreated (v.12), the elderly were disrespected (v.12) and the young men and boys subjected to slave labour (v.13).
Jeremiah summarizes the people’s plight with this awful description, “Our dancing has turned to mourning” and, “The crown has fallen off our head”. Do we have similar situations in the nations especially in our continent today and what can we do to bring healing? Jeremiah asserts that the Lord remains the same forever (v.19) and calls upon him to restore his people. God is ever willing to heal our land, if we will humble ourselves, pray and seek his face in repentance, then turn away from our wickedness. (2 Cor. 7:14).

• Lament for the sins of your nation and ask God to forgive and heal the land.
