One of the greatest challenges to Christian witness in many parts of Africa is the inconsistency of the lives of those who claim to be Christians. The lifestyles of many of us do not match our profession of faith especially when we are under some pressure. This is synonymous with taking God’s grace in vain (v.1).
Paul explains through his practical life experiences that he has tried to live as the gospel demands in all circumstances; a challenge to us. Go through vv.4–5 again and list the various pressures that Paul went through in ministry. With what qualities did Paul carry out his ministry in spite of these hardships (see vv.6–7).
Paul also experienced some contradictions which placed strains on him (vv.8–10). What lesson can we learn from Paul? The Corinthian church welcomed and cooperated with false teachers who are actually enemies of the gospel and had brought disunity into the fellowship.
Unequal yoke is often widespread in the church. Many impostors, often very eloquent and charismatic, have found their way into the fold. They have learnt the Christian language. We must watch out for them. They are not part of the fold. They constitute unequal yoke. We should avoid similar danger in our personal lives too.

Prayer:
• Pray that the Lord may grant us the spirit of discernment to identify the impostors in our midst.
• Pray for your Pastor and other Church leaders to be effective in ministry: clarity of message, courage to be scriptural, power of the Holy Spirit and exemplary life style.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 121:3–4
