BIBLE READING
Revelation 2:18-29
18 “And to the [a]angel of the church in Thyatira write,
‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, [b]service, faith, and your [c]patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have [d]a few things against you, because you allow [e]that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, [f]to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to [g]repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of [h]their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches[i] the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
24 “Now to you I say, [j]and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I [k]will put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—
27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’—
as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.
29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’

Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 August 2026 – OUTLINE
The special introduction of the Son of God (Revelation 2:18) can be understood with what is said in Revelation 2:23. Nothing is hidden from God. The Church in Thyatira was almost an ideal church. Recall all the impressive attributes of the church and note that she was improving by the day. However, it appears to be all deeds, service, and activities without sound doctrine. She failed to call Jezebel to order, even when it was clear she was encouraging immorality and idolatry.
This is a powerful reminder of our responsibility to others and the expectation God places on us to defend the faith in His honour (Revelation 2:20; Jude 1:3-4). We must dissociate with those whose words and actions glorify Satan instead of God, or malign and backstab others (Psalms 1:1). Another problem was the “Satan’s so-called deep secrets (Revelation 2:24).”
Run away from the claims of the mystery cults. “I have given her time to repent (Revelation 2:21). This is the nature of God; slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. However, at the end, judgment is inevitable (Revelation 2:22-23). Thank God that everybody cannot be deceived (Revelation 2:24). There is the need to hold on to the end (Revelation 2:25). Only then shall we reign with Christ (Revelation 2:26-27).
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, help me to boldly defend the faith in your honour everywhere and at all times.
