Daily Devotional for Couples – July 23, 2026: Keeping Romance Alive Through Thoughtful Love

Romance doesn’t disappear because love fades—it often fades because love is no longer expressed intentionally. Healthy marriages don’t thrive on grand gestures alone; they are strengthened by daily acts of thoughtfulness and affection.

Anchor Scripture

“Let all that you do be done with love.”1 Corinthians 16:14 (ESV)

Today’s Message

When two people first fall in love, expressing affection often comes naturally. Conversations are exciting, thoughtful surprises are common, and spending time together is a priority. As the years pass, however, responsibilities such as work, children, finances, and daily routines can quietly push romance into the background.

God never intended marriage to become merely a partnership for managing life. Marriage is a covenant of love that should continue to grow in warmth, friendship, and affection. Throughout Scripture, love is presented as active—not passive. It chooses to serve, encourage, honor, and delight in the other person.

Romance is not measured by expensive gifts or elaborate vacations. It often shines brightest through simple expressions of care: holding hands during a walk, leaving an encouraging note, preparing your spouse’s favorite meal, sending a thoughtful message during the day, or making time for uninterrupted conversation. These small moments communicate, “You are still precious to me.”

The Bible teaches us to honor one another (Romans 12:10). Honor means treating your spouse as someone valuable, never taking them for granted. Genuine compliments, words of appreciation, and intentional affection remind your husband or wife that they are loved not only for what they do, but for who they are.

Physical and emotional intimacy also flourish when couples consistently invest in kindness, trust, and respect. Love grows where people feel safe, valued, and understood. Don’t wait until your spouse asks for attention—be intentional about showing love before the need is spoken.

A thriving marriage is built one loving choice at a time. As you continue to reflect Christ’s selfless love, your relationship becomes stronger, sweeter, and more joyful with each passing day.

Action Prompt for Today

Do one thoughtful act today that your spouse is not expecting. It could be writing a heartfelt note, planning a quiet evening together, giving an encouraging compliment, praying over them, or simply spending quality time without distractions. Let your actions communicate, “I still choose you.”

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of love and for joining us together in marriage. Help us never to become careless with this precious relationship. Teach us to love intentionally, speak kindly, and serve one another with joyful hearts.

Renew the affection between us and keep our hearts tender toward each other. Remove every trace of complacency, selfishness, and neglect. Fill our home with laughter, peace, kindness, and genuine friendship.

Help us to honor one another through our words, actions, and attitudes. May we never stop expressing appreciation, showing affection, and making time for each other. Let our marriage reflect the faithful, joyful, and sacrificial love that Christ has for His Church.

Strengthen our emotional, spiritual, and physical bond, and let our relationship become a testimony of Your goodness and grace.

In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
