Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 July 2026 – OUTLINE
Notice the main reason behind the imaginary question of the Sadducees (Luke 20:27). Their argument appears logical. We often seek to apply logic to the things of God. That cannot work. God is never bound by natural laws. Different laws apply to spiritual and heavenly things. For the main reasons for such erroneous thinking, see Matthew 22:29.
Read Luke 20:34-38 to see the response of Jesus to the illustration used by the Sadducees to disprove resurrection. Note two things, no marriage, no death there. Our God is God of the living, not the dead. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The saints die not, they live forever! It is now the turn of Jesus to question the leaders.
By asking the question in Luke 20:41-44, Jesus again sought to show that the reference to the Messiah as David’s Son was not merely in physical sense as they had always thought. He was Lord of people’s hearts and lives and to call Him Lord meaningfully is to see Him as greater by far than any human being.
Closing Prayer
Make me wise, dear Lord, to the things of heaven.
Bible Reading Plan
2 Chronicles 27; Isaiah 9-12
