BIBLE VERSE FOR TODAY: “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple… In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be My disciples.” – Luke 14:26–27, 33
Following Jesus is the greatest calling anyone can receive, but it is also a call to wholehearted commitment.
In Luke 14:26–27, 33, Jesus speaks about the cost of discipleship. He is not teaching us to hate our families in the ordinary sense of the word. Rather, He is emphasizing that our love and devotion to Him must be greater than every other earthly relationship and possession.
Jesus deserves first place in our lives.
He calls us to carry our cross, which means willingly surrendering our own desires, embracing obedience, and following Him even when the path is difficult.
Discipleship is not about convenience.
It is about commitment.
It is choosing Christ over comfort.
It is trusting His will above our own.
It is living for His kingdom instead of our own ambitions.
Jesus also reminds us that nothing we possess should hold a greater place in our hearts than He does. Our possessions, achievements, and relationships are gifts from God, but they should never become idols that compete with our devotion to Him.
The Lord is not asking us to lose our joy—He is inviting us to find our greatest joy in Him.
When Christ becomes our highest priority, everything else finds its proper place. We learn to love others more deeply, steward our resources more faithfully, and live with an eternal perspective.
Today, ask the Lord to search your heart. Is there anything competing with your devotion to Him? Surrender it into His hands and choose to follow Him wholeheartedly.
For the greatest reward of discipleship is not what we leave behind—it is the privilege of walking closely with Jesus Himself.
Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to follow Jesus Christ. Thank You for loving me enough to invite me into a life of true discipleship.
Lord, help me to place You above every other priority in my life. Remove anything that competes with my devotion to You and teach me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Give me the courage to carry my cross each day, to obey Your Word, and to follow wherever You lead. When the path is difficult, strengthen my faith and remind me that Your presence is worth more than anything this world can offer.
Help me to surrender my plans, my possessions, and my ambitions to You, trusting that Your will is always good, pleasing, and perfect.
May my life reflect complete devotion to Christ, and may I faithfully follow Him all the days of my life.
