Faith often requires stepping into situations that seem impossible.
In Matthew 14:29-30, Peter did something no ordinary person could do—he stepped out of the boat and walked on water at the command of Jesus. As long as his focus remained on Christ, he experienced the miraculous.
But everything changed when he shifted his attention to the wind and the waves.
Fear replaced faith.
Doubt clouded his confidence.
And he began to sink.
Peter’s experience reflects the journey of many believers.
God calls us to trust Him beyond what we can see or understand. We step forward in obedience, believing His promises and relying on His power.
Yet when difficulties intensify, it is easy to become distracted by the circumstances around us.
Financial pressures, health concerns, broken relationships, unanswered prayers, or uncertain futures can become like the stormy waves that surrounded Peter.
The problem was not the size of the storm.
The problem was where Peter fixed his attention.
When his eyes were on Jesus, the impossible became possible.
When his eyes settled on the storm, fear took control.
The same principle applies to our lives today.
Our circumstances may change from day to day, but Christ remains constant.
His power is not diminished by our challenges.
His faithfulness is not shaken by our fears.
His presence is not limited by our weaknesses.
One of the most encouraging details in this passage is Peter’s cry: “Lord, save me.”
He did not compose a long prayer.
He simply called out to Jesus in his moment of need.
And immediately, Jesus reached out His hand.
This reminds us that God is near to those who call upon Him in faith.
When we stumble, He is ready to lift us up.
When we feel overwhelmed, He offers His strength.
When we begin to sink under the weight of fear, His grace is sufficient to sustain us.
Faith is not the absence of storms.
Faith is choosing to trust Jesus in the middle of them.
It is fixing our eyes on His promises instead of our problems and believing that the One who called us is faithful.
Perhaps today you feel surrounded by winds of uncertainty.
Maybe you have started well but have become discouraged by what you see around you.
Take your eyes off the storm and place them back on Christ.
He is still calling you to come.
He is still able to uphold you.
He is still reaching out His hand.
And He is still faithful to carry you through every trial.
Today, choose to walk by faith and keep your focus firmly on Jesus.
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being present with me in every storm of life. Thank You for Your power, Your faithfulness, and Your unfailing love that never lets me go.
Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and not on the circumstances around me. When fear tries to overwhelm my heart, strengthen my faith and remind me that You are greater than every challenge I face.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed doubt to replace trust. Teach me to rely on Your promises and to step forward in obedience, even when the path seems impossible.
When I begin to feel weak or discouraged, reach out Your hand and lift me up. Fill me with peace that overcomes anxiety and courage that reflects confidence in Your power.
May my life be a testimony that You are faithful in every season and that those who trust in You will never be abandoned.
