Bible Reading
Acts 2:1-13(NKJV)
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all [a]with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own [c]language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and [d]Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”
13 Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”
Question for Meditation
►Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 24 May 2026 OUTLINE
Pentecost was a special festival to thank God for new harvest known sometimes as the festival of weeks. This was celebrated 50 days after the Passover. Jews all over the world were encouraged to attend this festival which is the reason we had so many nationalities (Acts 2:5), of which 16 are mentioned by name including Africans (Acts 2:10).
God’s timing was perfect. People from all over the world heard poor Galileans speak their native languages! This was mind blowing and a miracle of huge proportions especially that the tongues were followed by tongues of fire landing on these people without being consumed! We see the cleansing effect of the Holy Spirit as fire in the life of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 6:6-7).
Also, the wind signifies the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Now read Acts 2:1-4 again and notice the importance of unity among the disciples as they awaited the promise (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-5). Praying in one accord is efficacious (Matthew 18:19 cf. Acts 4:24,31).
Note also that the Holy Spirit filled and enabled all the disciples without exception (Acts 2:4-8). The Holy Spirit is for all believers including you (Acts 2:39).

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me, break me, mould me, fill me, and use me…
