Joel Osteen Daily Devotional 2 May 2026 TOPIC: Upstream Faith
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
But as soon as the feet of the priests who were carrying the Ark touched the water at the river’s edge, the water above that point began backing up a great distance away at a town called Adam, which is near Zarethan. And the water below that point flowed on to the Dead Sea until the riverbed was dry. Then all the people crossed over near the town of Jericho.

TODAY’S WORD
Joshua was leading the two million Israelites into the Promised Land, but the Jordan River was at flood stage and impassable. In obedience to God’s promise, the priests stepped into the river with the Ark, but nothing happened. Imagine the disappointment of the people who stood watching in great expectation. The priests stood in the water and waited and waited in faith…an hour…then two. The miracle had happened twenty miles upstream; they just couldn’t see it yet. It was just a matter of time before the Israelites saw the effects of what God had already done. Finally the water flow dropped, and the riverbed was dry.
When you’re standing in those waters, believing for things to change, waiting for what God promised, stay in the water. Your obedience, stepping into the water, is what set the miracle in motion. And it’s by your obedience of staying in the water that will cause you to see what God has done upstream. Keep believing, keep praising, keep expecting that God is working. If you’re going to see upstream blessings, you have to have upstream faith.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that You have a plan for my life and that I need not fear stepping into the unknown. Thank You for calling me to follow You into waters that look impossible and to wait for You to bring the blessing. I ask You to make clear the next step that I should take, and I will take it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
