Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, expose me to your truth as I read your word in Jesus name.

Bible Reading
Jeremiah 48:26-47

Meditation Question
►Q1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Today’s passage revealed another problem of Moab, pride. Read Jeremiah 48:26,29,30,42 again and take note of other words used to describe Moab’s pride. To defy the Lord implies that Moab openly resisted, confronted, challenged and refused to obey God (Jeremiah 48:26,42). They were also boastful and ridiculed Israel as is often the habit of proud people.

See Jeremiah 48:30b for God’s conclusion about all their boasting. What would God do to Moab because of their pride (Jeremiah 48:26,28,34-35)? We should be wary of pride. God hates, and judges pride anywhere he finds it (1 Peter 5:5). How do Jeremiah 48:40-44 make you feel? Whereas Moab is described as a dove (Jeremiah 48:28b), the Babylonian army that God would use to punish them is described as an eagle (Jeremiah 48:40). There will be no escape for the people of Moab (Jeremiah 48:40-44).

Knowing what would become of Moab, Jeremiah mourns for them in advance (Jeremiah 48:31-33,36-39). What can we learn from this? Jeremiah 48:47 is an unexpected end. If God could extend hope to Moab, there is hope for the worst sinner who comes to God through Christ (see 2 Peter 3:9).
