Bible Reading
2 Timothy 3:1-9
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.
Question for Meditation
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 25 April 2026 | OUTLINE
The Apostle Paul was very emphatic that terrible things would happen in the last days (2 Timothy 3:1), and with the benefit of hindsight, we can confirm what he foretold. Go through 2 Timothy 3:2-5 again and carefully observe and count the number of characteristics that Paul said would define people in the last days (up to 2 Timothy 3:9). What does it mean “to have a form of godliness but deny its power” (2 Timothy 3:5)? In what ways are people today exhibiting godliness but without true faith? Take note of the command in 2 Timothy 3:5b.
In 2 Timothy 3:6-7, Paul gave us an example of how false teachers operate and what their impact can be. How can we guard ourselves and other young and naïve believers against the deceptions and activities of false teachers? In 2 Timothy 3:8, Paul reminds us of a pair that opposed Moses. We do not have their record in the Old Testament, but they are not an example to follow. Like Jannes and Jambres, false teachers would continue to oppose the truth. See their ultimate fate in 2 Timothy 3:9. We must not be resisters of the truth but defenders and promoters of God’s word.
