OPENING PRAYER
Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.
BIBLE READING
2 Timothy 2:8-13
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 April 2026 | MESSAGE
Timothy’s assignment was not only to pass on the gospel to others but also to model its demands on believers, and inspire others to follow suit, just like Paul had modelled it for him. To encourage Timothy in his suffering for the Gospel, Paul gave his own example. Observe Paul’s example of suffering for the gospel in 2 Timothy 2:9-10. But besides his example, Paul also points Timothy to Christ (2 Timothy 2:8).
Read 2 Timothy 2:11-13 again and take note of Christ’s example and the demands it places on us. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 is a hymn which Paul used to drive home his message to Timothy. The example of Jesus is a great source of strength for us in our suffering (Hebrews 12:2). Christ endured the suffering and pain of the cross for our sake, and now He has obtained the reward (C.f. Philippians 2:5-11).
We also must be ready to suffer for the gospel, and if need be, to die. But if we endure and remain faithful, we will reign with Christ. Note also the essential component of the gospel, the incarnation, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in 2 Timothy 2:8.
And So
What have you suffered? What are you suffering, and what are you willing to suffer so that those in your sphere of influence might obtain eternal salvation in Christ?
