BIBLE READING
2 Timothy 2:1-7
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITAION
►Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
►Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 April 2026 | OUTLINE
Like in the days of Timothy, there is prevalence of false teachers in our time. What strategies can we learn in 2 Timothy 2:1-2 to handle this? Paul gave Timothy two clear strategies; be strong in the grace that is Christ Jesus, and disciple others (2 Timothy 2:1-2). John Stott says, “The best way to combat false teaching is not to simply denounce it but to multiply faithful preachers and teachers of the truth.” Discipleship/mentorship is a major way of intentionally transferring values of the Kingdom, preserving the truth and sustaining the passion for the advancement of the gospel from one generation to another. See Acts 18:24-28 for how Priscila and Aquila helped Apollos.
Read 2 Timothy 2:3-6 again and observe the metaphors that Paul used for the Christian life. What are the essential character qualities that we can learn from each of these metaphors for our own Christian life and mentorship efforts? Like a soldier, we must be strong and focused on our God-given assignment. Like an athlete, we must persevere and do the assignment according to our Master’s rule, and like a farmer, we must be patient as we labour on our disciples.

CHURCH OF GOD
