MEMORY VERSE
“Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him”(Isaiah 43:7).
BIBLE READING: Isaiah 43:1-7(KJV)
1 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

The 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin are unique in the history of global games. Adolf Hitler and his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, had intended to use the sports to promote his Nazi party and showcase the supremacy of the Aryan (Caucasian) race in the world. Unfortunately, the Olympic star was Jesse Owens, an African American from the United States. He won four gold medals within an hour. Hitler left the stadium disappointed, and his plan of glorifying a race instead of God crumbled.
In our text, the Lord promised to redeem Israel because the nation was precious. He assured them of divine protection in danger and tribulation. The Lord told them not to entertain fear, promising to gather them from the ends of the earth. The central message is that Israel and all who are called by the name of the Lord exist to glorify God. What do we mean when we say man was created to glorify God? Does this imply that God wants to use us to advance His greatness? What proof must we show that man was created to glorify God? And how can we glorify God?
The purpose of the creation of man cannot be different from the reason God created the world. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork”. Hence, Isaiah says we are created for the glory of God. The word glory relates to dignity, honour, praise and worship. God is not trying to use us by instructing us to glorify Him. Whatever we do, we cannot make God bigger than who He is. Since we are created in the image of God, our primary responsibility is to reflect the nature of God in whatever we do, including dressing, eating and drinking. We can also glorify God by praising Him with our lips, obeying His Word, praying in Jesus’ name, preaching the gospel, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, and showing faithfulness in persecution.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
We are created to show forth God’s praise and radiate His glory
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 107-109
