Scripture Union Daily Guide 3rd April 2026 – Outline
Pilate’s unjust sentence led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Notice the various groups on the journey and around the cross. Simon from Cyrene (Luke 23:26), the crowd (Luke 23:27), the women, the criminals, those who snared, the soldiers (Luke 23:36), and so on. These all played their part in the crucifixion story. We each take our place around the cross. What is your present position and how are you engaging with the cross of Jesus Christ?
Jesus suffered in so many ways between His arrest, trials, judgement and crucifixion. This was a very gruesome, brutal and slow death. We do not forget that while He is God, He was also fully human when He was physically on earth. He must have suffered extreme pain as they nailed Him to the cross. Notice the deep prayer for mercy and forgiveness that flowed from His loving heart fulfilling His own command to love our enemies and those who hurt us (Luke 23:34; look up Matthew 5:44). What can we learn from His prayer?
Notice His assurance to the criminal who called upon Him for mercy (Luke 23:43). Jesus promised him even more than his request. Compare that with Isaiah 65:24.
Food for Thought
What is your request to the one who suffered this much for you?

BLESSÈD CALVARY
1. I look at the cross upon Calvary,
And oh, what a wonder divine,
To think of the wealth it holds for me—
The riches of Heaven are mine.
Refrain
Blessèd Calvary! Precious Calvary!
’Neath thy shadow I’ll ever abide.
Blessèd Calvary! Precious Calvary!
’Twas there Jesus suffered and died.
2. I find at the cross blessèd victory,
And grace for each step of my way.
The fount of God’s love is flowing free,
And sweeter it grows day by day.
3. The cross is my hope for eternity,
No merit have I of my own;
The shed blood of Christ my only plea—
My trust is in Jesus alone.
Closing Prayer
Pray for those who are suffering unjustly for defending the truth.
Prayer of Faith
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 31:6
