Scripture Reading
Luke 22:1-13
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 March 2026 | OUTLINE
While the Lord and His disciples were preparing for the Passover (Luke 22:7), the most important religious feast of the Jews, the religious leaders, and people who would lead in the celebration were busy plotting to kill him (Luke 22:1-2), and Judas was preparing to betray him (Luke 22:6). What an irony that these kinds of people are the leaders of God’s people. Wherever we have such self-seeking, jealous and insecure people as leaders, things cannot go well.
Read Luke 22:3 again. What do you think made it possible for Satan to enter Judas, someone who was very close to Jesus? See John 12:4-6; cf. 1 Timothy 6:9-10. What can we learn from Judas’ experience? Our mind is a battleground. Judas must have been meditating on this wrong idea for some time and Satan just took advantage of it. See Proverbs 4:23.
Now under the control of Satan, Judas went to the leading priests (Luke 22:4-6). If Judas had remained in the company of the disciples, he could have been helped to overcome the temptation. Be careful of the kind of people and places you go to when struggling with temptation (Psalms 1:1; 1 Corinthians 15:33).
