FIRE SCRIPTURE: Judges 4:17-20
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.

The next lesson we learn from Jael is industriousness. Jael and her people, the Kenites, were tent makers. They had no permanent dwelling; they used to move from place to place and set up tents wherever they settled. Jael was experienced in the art of setting up and pulling down tents. She was highly skilled in this. She was a hardworking woman. The Bible says that she offered Sisera milk. The fact that she could afford milk in her own tent is a testament that she must have been a hardworking woman.
Proverbs 31, while describing the virtuous woman, assigns to her the attributes of hard work and strength (vv. 25,27). Jael, as we see, possessed these attributes. This is a role that many Christians fail to perform. Christianity is not an excuse for laziness; it should never be used as a cloak for mediocrity. God expects His people to be up and doing, not slothful in business.
In the book of Ecclesiastes 9:10, scripture enjoins us to do whatever we have to do with our might. This means that, as Christians, there is no room for sloppiness in our day to day affairs. Our attitude towards work should be the right one. Christians should not be busybodies as Paul admonishes in the book of 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12; they should rather work hard so that the spirit of excellence of the Father can be made manifest in and through them.
Examine yourself today. Can you really describe yourself as hardworking? Or, do you just sit and wish for good things? Beloved, nothing good comes without a measure of hard work. As a matter of fact, the only place where success comes before work is the dictionary. The Lord Himself, the Creator of the universe, put in the work to bring the world into existence so what makes you think you don’t have a role to play in your own success story?
Beloved, rise up today and take the right action where you need to. Then, call on the Lord to bless your efforts. Great success shall be yours, in Jesus’ name.
