Daily Fountain Devotional 5 March 2026 TOPIC: Called Out of Darkness Into His Marvelous Light
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 5:27-39
27Â And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.
28Â And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
29Â And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.
30Â But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31Â And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32Â I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
33Â And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?
34Â And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
35Â But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
36Â And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37Â And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38Â But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39Â No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
TODAY’S MESSAGE:
In our reading today, Jesus called a socially unacceptable person, Levi the publican, into His fellowship of followers/servants. When the righteous questioned the merit of Jesus identifying with such a doer of evil, the Lord answered that He came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance (v.32). Beloved, it isnot God’s intention that any should perish but that the sinner should come to Him in repentance. (Heb. 1:13). We are called from sin to the life of righteousness (1 Pet.2:9).
Do you in any way, believe that you are most unworthy to be called by the Lord Jesus? Be assured that He loves you and desires to have you in the company of His beloved chldren. Like Levi, rise up and follow Him. He will purify and justify you. When you answer and follow, He will make you a personality of delight and envy to others. Jesus will take away your old garments and clothe you with a new dress, and you will become a new vessel for the new wine.
TODAY’S PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Irespond todayto your call. Accept me and use meto yourglory. Amen.
