Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 March 2026 | OUTLINE
Read Psalms 109:22-25 again and observe the different kinds of suffering that David experienced.
(i) Poverty: He was poor and needy when Saul was hunting for him and he was running and hiding in caves and deserts.
(ii) Wound of the heart: Though innocent, Saul wanted him dead. His son, Absalom conspired against him and his trusted friend Ahithophel betrayed him. These caused him wounds of the heart.
(iii) Loss of Hope: He despaired of life, thinking his life might end the next moment.
(iv) Physical weakness: He fasted so much that he became emaciated and bony.
(v) Mockery: He was mocked and insulted because of his conditions.
David cried to God for help in his troubles (Psalms 109:21,26). Like David, sometimes, we go through protracted and different kinds of suffering. Instead of continuing in self-pity, we should cry out to God for help and deliverance.
What else can we learn from David in Psalms 109:27,30-31? While seeking God’s intervention, we should follow David’s example here for the sake of His name and glory (Psalms 109:27), with faith and confidence, and praising Him for the assurance of His intervention (Psalms 109:30-31).
