Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 February 2026 | OUTLINE
It is unthinkable that someone, after lighting a lamp, will cover it with a container. An African adage says, ‘you cannot cover pregnancy with the hand’. In the same way, when the light of the truth about Jesus enlightens us, we cannot hide but rather shine that light to help others (Luke 8:16-17, see Matthew 5:16). Our witness for Jesus should be public and not hidden. We need to allow His light to shine through us so that others can also see the light and accept the salvation He offers.
Only those who hear and obey the word of God are part of God’s true family. Hearing without obeying is not enough. Faith without obedience is not an option in God’s spiritual family. How obedient are you to God’s words (see John 14:15)? It is not the word you recite, sing or preach that profits you but the word you obey and practice.
The Sea of Galilee is known for sudden fierce squalls because it is 696 feet (212m) below sea level. As the squall came down the disciples became afraid and woke Jesus and He rebuked the storm. Sometimes, when we are caught in the storms of life, we are tempted to think that God has lost control, and we become afraid. Jesus’ rebuke of the storm shows He has authority over nature (Luke 8:22-25). What is that storm challenging your life? Call on Jesus. Just as He calmed the waves, He can calm whatever storms you may be facing.
