1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been [b]freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, [c]reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as [d]instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Sanctification is the next unavoidable experience that follows our salvation reality. It is the indepth work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a follower of Jesus, cutting off and rooting out every entrenched pattern of sin and stronghold of adamic nature that is in enmity with life in the Spirit. It then follows that if you claim that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, you have to seek the blessing of sanctification. What you need to understand is that sanctification is God’s divine method of effecting the complete deliverance of a believer from the power of sin. The foundation is laid at Calvary, at the foot of the Cross in repentance.
In sanctifying you, God saves you from the oppressive dominion of sin and its practice. He fills you with the Holy Spirit and the grace to be steadfast in your walk with Him, living in obedience to His Word. Why is God doing that spiritual operation in the lives of His children? He is doing that because He desires that every believer should mature and become more Christ-like in every facet of his life. He wants the believer to become free from the control and dominion of sin.
Sanctification, therefore, is separation from sin, the world, and everything that is contrary to Jesus Christ, contrary to the life of righteousness, contrary to God’s Word, and drawing near to God in a close and intimate fellowship. Sanctification is the means to becoming holy and consecrate oneself to God, separating oneself and having intimate fellowship with God, serving Him gladly through prayer, worship, study of the word of God and loving service.
The results of sanctification are gloriously awesome. Your life will carry the beauty of Jesus. The sweet fragrance of the Holy Spirit will begin to flow out of you. Your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit will become heightened. The flame of the Spirit’s fire will be burning in you. You will become a living sacrifice. Your authority as a believer will become more pungent and effective. The peace and rest which have been eluding you will automatically become your possessions. Are you born again? Have you received sanctification?
