Today’s Reading
Zephaniah 3:14-20
“At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the Lord. – Zephaniah 3:20 (NIV)
Hopping from one place to another, I moved between the homes of my friends and relatives as I struggled to find employment in a city far from home. Grappling with financial lack and the overwhelming sense of being a burden, I couldn’t help but be embarrassed, especially when I had to prolong my stay for months. I wondered if I was overstaying my welcome, even though my hosts were gracious. I longed for a place to call my own.
However, my deep sense of grief and loneliness was met with comfort as I read about God’s promise to the Israelites to bring them back to their homeland. God would remove their shame, and the scattered people would return to their beautiful land and enjoy its produce. They would feel safe and secure. This hope would grant them the strength to endure hardships and fill them with peace as they waited upon the Lord.
As I wait for God to bring me to my physical home, I trust God to be my spiritual home — my comfort and shelter. I rest in God’s loving embrace.
