Israel is seen promoting idol worship instead of righteousness. This showed the deceitfulness of their hearts (Hosea 10:1,2). This is like the way many nations and people use God’s blessing to support various forms of idol worship. What will God do to them in return and for what purpose (Hosea 10:2-4)? As a result, the land is to face calamity. Everybody would be affected (Hosea 10:5-8). It will be such that people would desire death to avoid the accompanying pains. Sin indeed is a reproach to a nation (Proverbs 14:34).
God recalled Gibeah as a place that was full of corruption (Hosea 10:9). Their sin only rivalled those of Sodom and Gomorrah (Judges 19:22-26). To show that God is not partial, He would allow Israel to experience what Gibeah experienced. Notice what He promised to do in Hosea 10:9-10?
However, God is gracious. In his anger, He still offers hope, inviting Israel to repentance (Hosea 10:12). Unfortunately, instead of retracing her steps in full repentance, she continued in idolatry and must face the consequence (Hosea 10:13-15).
