1:7. For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ [as] coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
1:8. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but [that] we may receive a full reward.
1:9. Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.
1:10. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;
1:11. for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.
1:12. Having many things to write to you, I did not wish [to do so] with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
1:13. The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.

This is a note of caution from the Apostle on the back of the activities of false teachers and deceivers, amongst God’s people. Those false teachers denied the humanity (the incarnation) of Christ. And for us today, they are those who teach the concept of sexual liberality, irresponsible Christianity, moral looseness, feminism, etc.
Some say that all you need to do is to confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; and regardless of what you do afterwards, you will be fine. In order for us not to lose and be lost, John says we should look to ourselves. He said we should beware of being like them, thereby losing the prize that we have been working so hard to get.
It is the reason Paul said to the Philippians (2:12-13): Work out our salvation with fear and trembling. He said to the Corinthians: Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall (1Cor. 10:12). We should not become so unguarded to the point of missing our bearing.
PRAYER: Lord, help me not to lose sight of the track you are leading me on, Amen!
MEDITATION: God says “My tender mercies never fail, for they are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23”
