Bible Text
Jeremiah 12:1-17
Meditation Question
► Q7: What truth is God
Jeremiah is not the only one who faced the dilemma (Jeremiah 12:1-2). Find time to read Psalms 73 to see how Asaph grappled with the same question. A man’s evil affects many innocent people. Even the animals in the forest and our environment in general suffer. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have perished in Russia’s war with Ukraine. As of the day of writing this note, almost 30,000 Palestinians and Israelis, mainly women and children have perished in the Gaza war. At one man’s command, tanks roll, jet bombers fly, cities are destroyed, and many innocent people are killed. Is God just to allow these things?
Observe that God does not answer Jeremiah’s complaints directly, instead, how does He address the prophet’s feelings in Jeremiah 12:5-6? We must never allow surrounding perplexing situations or personal disappointments to discourage us. God is always in control and His ways are very different from ours. Sooner or later, sin will be punished. At His own time, God will judge Judah (Jeremiah 12:7-13) and her wicked neighbours (Jeremiah 12:14-17). Ours is never to doubt His justice.
