Today’s Reading
2 Chronicles 24:1-14
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. – 1 Peter 5:10 (NRSVUE)
The small, dilapidated house I bought was a dream come true. For 15 years I had told my husband that if I had some extra money, I would buy an old house, renovate it, and rent it out. Now I had the opportunity! I planned a complete remodel for the house and employed skilled laborers of all trades to do the work. I felt like King Joash from today’s scripture reading who decided to restore the house of the Lord.
The workers installed new windows, doors, electrical wiring, plumbing, and flooring, along with new fixtures and cabinetry for the kitchen and bathroom. When the work was done, the little house was unrecognizable from its former self. Even the appraiser was astonished to see how the once run-down property had been transformed by the changes.
God wants to transform our lives in much the same way. Perhaps we have weathered difficult relationships, economic hardship, or a debilitating illness. There is always hope in believing that our gracious God is able to turn our situation around. No matter the condition or circumstances we may find ourselves in, God’s plan is to renew and restore us.
