Today’s Reading
Isaiah 45:1-7
The Lord says, “I call you by your name; I give you a title, though you do not know me.” – Isaiah 45:4 (NRSVUE)
I stepped out early one morning to take a walk. The damp sidewalk showed that it had recently rained. The sky was still dark as I started my usual two-mile loop, but it slowly brightened as I continued walking. At the end of my walk, as I rounded the corner toward home, I was surprised by a beautiful sight. Peeking out from among the houses and trees was a rainbow. The dawn sky was a mix of blue and pink with a colorful rainbow in the middle.
As I stood there admiring the rainbow, a jogger approached from the opposite direction and went right by me without looking at the beautiful sight that I was witnessing. I then reflected on the countless times that I must have missed out on something wonderful that God had done.
God is always present and ready to show us something good, but we aren’t always paying attention. It can be easy for us to go about our lives and forget that God is with us and loves and cares for us. I hope to be more mindful of God’s constant presence, and I want to help shine the light of Christ into the lives of others.
