If God is good, why is life sometimes so unfair? The story of Job is a classic case study. He feared God, was blameless and upright (Job 1:1) yet he suffered a calamity of unprecedented dimensions. Why do the innocent suffer? Does God really care? Job is at his lowest ebb in his situation, a condition worsened by the unhelpful reactions of his friends. Draw out the main elements of his lamentations. Among other things, he was dispirited and he felt humiliated (Job 30:1-15).
There are lessons for us.
1. Like Job, bare your mind to God and ask Him all your questions.
2. Be honest with Him when you have come to the end of the road. .
3. Do not be quick to jump to conclusions.
4. Do not give in to despair however impossible a situation may seem. God can turn things around for good (Psalms 30:5b).
5. God has not given us a spirit of fear or shame, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
6. God is sovereign, and nothing escapes Him. Wait patiently for Him.
