Today’s Reading
Matthew 7:24-27
Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” – Matthew 7:24 (NIV)
When my mother passed away in 1982, I became an orphan and was raised in an environment without honesty or trust. With no firm foundation to rely on as a child, I needed guidance but did not know where to turn.
A few years after my mother’s death I could feel that something was not right. I needed to choose how I would live my life — which path to follow. I started asking myself many questions: Who am I? Where do I come from? Who is my father? I asked my sisters, brothers, and my aunts some of these questions, but I received no helpful answers.
I longed to have a father or at least someone to call “father.” Because I was not raised by a family that believed in God, I didn’t fully understand that God is our father who is in heaven. I started to seek God, going to church and praying with other people. Over time, God helped me to discover and understand who I am. I decided to accept God as my father. When we seek God, we can build a firm foundation of faith for a fulfilling life.
