Seeds of Destiny – 16th September 2025 MESSAGE
The lessons of life are better learned from the examples of others rather than by personal experiences. Regrets can be avoided by learning from the mistakes of others instead of one’s own mistakes. And it is possible for us to learn from both the positive and negative examples of others.
Today, we shall be looking at the scriptural example of someone who lost charge of destiny, and what he did to lose it so we can avoid it. And our prime example today is Saul, the first king of Israel.
Saul was one of the most favoured persons in scripture; he was anointed as the first king of Israel. He was anointed king from a non-kingly tribe, the tribe of Benjamin. He was sought out despite running from the throne (1Samuel 10:22). And God had a plan for Saul, to establish his throne forever (1Samuel 13:13). But Saul could not even finish his tenure before he was rejected by God. He lost out of destiny. What happened? One of the things that was responsible for the loss of Saul’s destiny was what I call the tragedy of personality without spirituality.
Saul possessed a towering personality without a buoyant spirituality. He was the kind of man who could be described as a container without content. Yes, he was a choice young man, and good looking (1Samuel 9:1-2; 10:20-25).
But those were all physical attributes, and unfortunately, those were all he seemed to have. His credentials were all about physicality, personality and charisma, but zero spirituality.
The highest description of Saul was his physical personality contrary to David who was described as the sweet psalmist of Israel and a man after God’s heart (2 Samuel 23:1, 1 Samuel 13:14). There was minimal, if any, description of Saul’s spirituality. It is not wrong to have personality, but it is an error to have personality without spirituality. Your spiritual root is what determines your destiny fruit.
Beloved, no matter what you do, do all you can to deepen your spiritual root because the vibrancy of your spirituality determines the buoyancy of your destiny. When your outer life is larger than your inner life, a collapse of destiny is inevitable.
Remember this: It is not wrong to have personality, but it is an error to have personality without spirituality.
