Read DCLM Daily Manna – 22nd August 2025, Friday Devotional Message.
TOPIC: Jesus Paid It All
KEY VERSE:
“And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.” – (Numbers 3:51).
READ: Numbers 3:44-51 (CEB)
44 Then the Lord spoke to Moses: 45 Take the Levites in place of all the oldest Israelites and the cattle of the Levites in place of their cattle. The Levites are mine; I am the Lord. 46 To rescue the 273 remaining oldest Israelites over and above the number of Levites, 47 you will receive five shekels each. You will receive them according to the sanctuary shekel of twenty gerahs to the shekel. 48 You will give the money for their rescue to Aaron and his sons.
49 So Moses took the money from those rescued over and above the ones rescued by the Levites. 50 He took the money from the oldest of the Israelites, 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel. 51 Moses gave the money for those rescued to Aaron and his sons according to the Lord’s word, as the Lord commanded Moses.
DCLM Daily Manna – 22 August 2025: MESSAGE:
“If the prize of salvation were silver and gold, all the poor of this world be lost,” is the memorable first stanza of the redemptive hymn by Sherman Long. In this epic song, Long ruminated on the work of Christ at Calvary and the great price He paid to redeem humanity. The third stanza is as pure as it is penetrating: “Oh, what love and compassion, was made manifest, when He gave up His life on the tree; sure, deliverance He brought to the poor and oppressed, and salvation to all is free.”
The text discusses the old covenant practices of redemption, where individuals were required to bring five shekels to Moses to be redeemed. Initially, all the firstborns among the people were considered God’s, but later the Levites were chosen to take their place. This transition symbolises God’s ownership of all beings and his right to do as he pleases. This concept foreshadows Jesus eventually taking the place of sinful humanity before God. Just as the Levites replaced the firstborn, Christ likewise takes the place of humanity in redeeming them. It highlights the idea of divine ownership and God’s ultimate authority over all creation. The text emphasises the significance of these practices in understanding God’s plan for redemption through Jesus.
Sin must be punished, and God will condemn the guilty. Jesus became Pascal, an atoning lamb who died on the accursed tree to redeem man to God. Such a High Priest becomes us, says the writer of (Hebrews 7:27), who needed not to offer up sacrifices daily for man’s sins but by one final sacrifice paid the ultimate price.
Jesus is the Pascal Lamb. He is the substitutionary Offering of God that paved the way for our eternal dwelling with the Almighty. He is the perfect, holy, harmless, undefiled, Lamb of God who took away our sins; thereby, reconciling us with God once and for all. We show our gratitude to Him by first repenting of our sins, accepting His completed work, and living for Him for the rest of our lives. Will you accept Him today?
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Jesus paid all the price necessary for you to enter heaven.
