Scripture Union Daily Guide – 18 August 2025 OUTLINE
Do you know the hymn, “All people that on earth do dwell”? It is one of many which this Psalm has inspired. You can find several others on YouTube. The renown Baptist preacher, Charles Spurgeon, wrote in his commentary on this Psalms: “It is all ablaze with grateful adoration, and has for this reason been a great favourite with the people of God ever since it was written.”
Right from the first verse, it leaves no one out of its invitation to everyone to gush out in praise to God. A joyful noise is what it recommends, and children and adults in every tribe and race all over the world can make a joyful noise! However, there could be exceptions. After all, there were those who refuse to honour the king’s invitation to the banquet in the story Jesus told. Hence, Isaac Watts makes clear in another hymn:
“Let those refuse to sing
Who never knew our God;
But children of the heavenly king
Must speak his praise abroad.”
Adoration
