TOPIC: Take Charge
SCRIPTURE READING: John 5: 1-14 (KJV)
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
FOCUS VERSE:

Streams of Joy Daily Devotional 14th August 2025 MESSAGE:
In our Focal Scripture, Jesus told the man at the pool of Bethesda to take up his bed. That man had probably been on his bed for so long. He had been carried by his bed for the period of his infirmity; but when Jesus showed up, He commanded that the man should carry the same bed that once carried him. Jesus commanded that the man should move from being carried to being the one to carry. Jesus commanded the man to carry his bed.
Friend, I pray for you: receive grace to carry whatever carried you in time past. Receive grace to carry the same people to whom you were once a burden. Receive grace to support the people who once supported you. Receive grace to do for others what they needed to do for you in time past. Receive grace to become a burden bearer. Receive grace to take charge of situations that once held sway over your destiny.
You may have been the one to be carried in the past season; others may have carried you emotionally, financially, etc.; but in this season, receive grace to carry what carried you before. Receive grace to carry what you could not carry before. Receive grace to become dependable to those you needed to depend on in time past. Receive grace to move from being a dependent to being dependable. Receive grace to carry your bed.
The days of being unable to carry your ‘bed’, are over. The days of being unable to do major things for yourself and for others, are over. The days of being perpetually dependent, are over. The days of never being able to take charge of what is going on around you, are over. The days of being weak when you ought to be strong, are over. The days of being counted amongst those who are stuck in ‘Bethesda’, are over.
Welcome to your new season of being dependable. Welcome to that season where you will carry what used to carry you before.
Isaiah 35: 3 says: “Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.”
DECLARATION: I receive grace to carry whatever carried me before, in Jesus’ name!
