TOPIC: Beggars’ Club
MEMORISE
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. – Hebrews 13:5
READ: Genesis 25:29-34(ESV)
29 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.[a]) 31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” 32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE:
Begging can be a sign of covetousness. This is because a fellow who is begging might not really be in need; the fellow might just not be content with what he or she has and only wants to have what belongs to another person. Some people cannot take their eyes off other people’s possessions. This attitude is a vice that you have to consciously and prayerfully deal with if you are guilty of it. Do you know that many have been initiated into witchcraft as a result of accepting food from someone else?
In today’s Bible reading, Esau said, “Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birth right do to me?” Jacob took advantage of his brother’s greed to rob him of his birthright.
My dear child, don’t sell your birthright to the devil through love for other people’s belongings.
KEY POINT
Covetousness can lead to trouble.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
1 Kings 22:1-53, Acts 13:16-41
HYMN 63
O FOR A THOUSAND TONGUES TO SING
1 O for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!
2 My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread thro’ all the earth abroad
the honors of your name.
3 Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease,
’tis music in the sinner’s ears,
’tis life and health and peace.
4 He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
he sets the prisoner free;
his blood can make the foulest clean;
his blood availed for me.
5 To God all glory, praise, and love
be now and ever given
by saints below and saints above,
the Church in earth and heaven.
