Today’s Daily Guide 29 May 2025 Reading By Scripture Union
TOPIC: Go and Make Disciples!
OPENING PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Matthew 28:11-20 (NIV)
The Guards’ Report
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
QUESTION FOR MEDITATION:
► Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 29 May 2025 – OUTLINE
How many categories of people are mentioned in Matthew 28:11-13? Each one had witnessed “everything that had happened.” Can lies suppress the truth? No way! The soldiers knew the truth, but they accepted a bribe to suppress the story. The chief priests knew who Jesus was, and the truth of His resurrection, but they deliberately joined hands with the elders and “devised a plan” to create a different narrative to the resurrection of Jesus Christ (see Matthew 28:13).
Notice the extent to which they went to ensure lies prevail (Matthew 28:14-15). The offering of large sums of money to cover up the truth and perpetrate evil is very rampant in our society today. It is sad that even our religious leaders are not immune to this cankerworm. God seeks clergy and laity, old and young who will not mortgage their consciences because of money.
The risen Christ meets His disciples and gives them the Great Commission. We too must seize every opportunity to make people we come across, disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Notice the motivation for pursuing this mission in Matthew 28:18,20.
Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
Ask the Lord to enable you to become a disciple maker.
