TOPIC: The Messiah
Scripture Reading — John 20:30-31
These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. — John 20:31
This brief note at the end of John’s gospel account sums up the purpose of Jesus’ coming. Through all of the other characters we have met and learned about in the story of Jesus, and through all of the things that took place in connection with Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, the main point has always been that Jesus is the Messiah.
Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah (the Christ, meaning “Anointed One”), sent by God the Father to live among us for the purpose of delivering us from the curse of sin. On our own we would have no chance of paying the price for our sin or trying to make right everything that we have done wrong in this world. We could never earn our own forgiveness. Jesus was sent to take the punishment that we deserve onto himself and to reconcile us with God once and for all. He lived, died, and was raised from the dead for you and for me—to bring us life at its fullest. Through Jesus, God offers each of us eternal life filled with forgiveness, love, grace, and purpose.

PRAY: Father in heaven, thank you for the gift of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Help us to live fully with gratitude for the amazing gift of salvation that you offer us today. Amen.
