Today’s Daily Guide 12th April 2025 (Scripture Union) Saturday Devotional Message
Read Today’s Daily Guide 12th April 2025 (Scripture Union)
TOPIC: The Betrayal of Jesus
OPENING PRAYER: Plant my steps in the sure promises of your word today, dear Lord.
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 26:47-56
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION:
► Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Remember the ‘secret’ meeting Judas had with the Chief Priest (Matthew 26:14-16) and the many warnings of Jesus (Matthew 26:21,23-25). It is said that the dog that is destined to get lost does not respond to the hunter’s whistle. The love of money was too strong for Judas. He went ahead to betray Jesus. A kiss is a token of friendship and love. Judas abused his friendship with Jesus to commit evil. How we need to beware of false friends. They will be rightly called “wolves in sheep’s clothing”.
Jesus was arrested by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs and delivered to the chief priests and elders of the people. Compare His response with that of Peter (Matthew 26:50-54). What do you think accounts for the difference? (Refer to the episode in yesterday’s passage.) We must constantly remind ourselves that the weapons we fight with are not carnal but spiritual (2 Corinthians 10:4).
The passage ends with Jesus standing alone, all the disciples having deserted Him. They have all fled for their lives (Matthew 26:56). We can neither place our confidence in anyone nor even in ourselves.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, that all were against you so that all may be well with me.
