Daily Fountain Devotional 4th June 2020
STUDY: Samson, believing that he was legally married to the Philistine woman that he abandoned in our yesterday lesson, took a gift and went to visit her in her father’s house. He was shocked to learn that the woman he loved and saw as his wife was now married to his best-man! He was angry, and even the offer of a younger, prettier bride didn’t appease him. Instead of repenting of his rash decision and like Jacob, seek to resolve his marriage issue with his in-law, Samson decided to revenge on the Philistines – this was a transfer of aggression.
In retaliation, he said: “As they (Philistines) did unto me, so have I done unto them” (v.11). Transfer of aggression and personal vengeance characterised Samson’s insincerity to himself about his ill decision. As Christians, we need to be sincere to ourselves and take responsibility for our decisions.
We do not need to look for who to blame when faced with the consequences of our rash decisions. Instead, we should confess our weakness and mistake to God so He will help us to right our wrongs. Jesus makes old things to pass away; invite Him into your life now!
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8-11)
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to take responsibility for my decisions, forgive me and right my wrongs.
