In the parables of the hidden treasure and the costly pearls, Jesus teaches us to value the kingdom of God above everything else. In the parable of hidden treasure, notice the extent the wise man was willing to go to acquire the land (Matthew 13:44). What must have moved him to do this? The treasure was more valuable compared to everything he had.
In the parable of the pearls, Jesus teaches the same lesson (Matthew 13:45-46) as in that of the hidden treasures. We should learn to place a high premium on our salvation and eternal life which we obtained freely through faith in Christ Jesus.
The parable of the dragnet points to the same lesson as the parable of the weeds and wheat. At the final judgment there will be a separation of the righteous from the unrighteous (Matthew 13:47-50). What warning do you have from this awful picture of the separation of the good and the bad fish?
