Daily Devotional For Today 25th February 2025 TOPIC: “Rejoice, Pray, Give”
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)
In our daily walk with Christ, we often find ourselves weighed down by challenges, uncertainties, and trials. Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes joy feels distant, prayer feels burdensome, and gratitude seems impossible. However, in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul presents three simple yet powerful commands: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. These are not suggestions but instructions from God, revealing His will for our lives.

Let’s take a deeper look at these three commands and how we can apply them in our journey of faith.
1. Rejoice Always
Paul begins with the call to “Rejoice always.” At first glance, this command seems difficult, especially in times of sorrow, pain, and loss. However, Paul is not instructing us to be happy all the time based on circumstances but to have deep, abiding joy in the Lord.
This joy is not rooted in worldly success, comfort, or the absence of trouble. Instead, it comes from our relationship with Christ. As Jesus said in John 15:11, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” True joy comes from abiding in Christ, knowing that He is in control and working all things for our good (Romans 8:28).
Even in suffering, we can rejoice because trials strengthen our faith and bring us closer to God (James 1:2-3). Paul himself endured persecution, imprisonment, and hardships, yet he continually rejoiced in the Lord (Philippians 4:4). His joy was not based on circumstances but on the unshakable hope in Christ.
Application: No matter what you are facing today, choose to rejoice in the Lord. Remember His faithfulness, His promises, and His presence in your life.
2. Pray Without Ceasing
Paul’s second instruction is to “Pray without ceasing.” This doesn’t mean we should spend every waking moment on our knees, but rather that we should cultivate a constant attitude of prayer. Prayer is more than just an activity—it is a lifestyle of continual communication with God.
Jesus Himself modeled a life of unceasing prayer. He often withdrew to pray (Luke 5:16) and taught His disciples to be persistent in prayer (Luke 18:1). Paul also emphasized the power of prayer in Philippians 4:6, saying, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Praying without ceasing means bringing everything to God—our worries, joys, decisions, and struggles. It means maintaining a constant awareness of His presence and relying on Him for strength, guidance, and peace.
Application: Develop a habit of continual prayer. Speak to God throughout your day, whether in moments of thanksgiving, asking for help, or interceding for others. Let prayer be the heartbeat of your relationship with Him.
3. Give Thanks in All Circumstances
The final command in this passage is to “Give thanks in all circumstances.” This does not mean we should be thankful for every difficulty, but that we should be thankful in every circumstance, trusting that God is at work.
Paul is not saying that we should ignore pain or pretend that suffering does not exist. Rather, he calls us to develop a heart of gratitude, even in difficult times. Why? Because we serve a God who is sovereign, loving, and faithful. When we trust Him, we can give thanks, knowing that He is working in ways we cannot yet see.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that “For those who love God all things work together for good.” When we cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving, we shift our focus from our problems to God’s promises. Gratitude strengthens our faith and helps us recognize His hand in our lives.
Application: Instead of dwelling on what is going wrong, focus on what God has done and is doing in your life. Make a habit of expressing gratitude daily.
Conclusion
These three commands—rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances—are not only achievable but essential for a thriving Christian life. When we live with joy, constant prayer, and gratitude, we align ourselves with God’s will and experience His peace and presence in new ways.
Are you facing trials today? Choose to rejoice, pray, and give thanks. Trust that God is at work, and He will see you through.
