Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st March 2025 TOPIC: The Good Seed and Evil Seed
OPENING PRAYER: Open my eyes O Lord that I might behold wondrous things from your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Matthew 13:24-30,36-43
Question(s) For Meditation:
► Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
In this parable, the kingdom of God is likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field (Matthew 13:24), but secretly, an enemy, Satan sowed evil seed (his children) in the same field. Both seeds grew up together (Matthew 13:25-26). The servants of the man wanted to pull out the weeds immediately, but their master asked them to wait until harvest. Why? See Matthew 13:29-30. Notice that when they grew, it was difficult to distinguish between the two plants.
Christ sows good seed (the believers) in the world, but Satan, His enemy, sows evil seed (false believers). In the church, there are always false believers among the believers (Matthew 7:15). Is it possible to have a perfect local church, where every member is a child of God? The parable suggests that weeds will always co-exist with the wheat, but it should serve as a warning for our carefulness.
We want to rid the church of the false believers. But Christ says, “No, let both grow together until the harvest” (Matthew 13:30). At the end of the age, Christ will send His angels to separate the believers from the false believers (Matthew 13:39-43). Notice the destinations of each group!
