THE UPPER ROOM DEVOTIONAL 16TH FEBRUARY 2025, SUNDAY MESSAGE
Read The Upper Room Devotional 16th February 2025 written by María de los Ángeles Vélez (Santiago, Chile)
TOPIC: Light of Hope
Today’s Reading
Jonah 2:1-10
From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.” – Jonah 2:1-2 (NIV)
Today’s Message
For several days now I have been feeling depressed — as if life is weighing me down, as if I can’t breathe fresh air, as if I were at the bottom of the sea. Outwardly, I am all smiles, but inside I feel a knot in my chest. Still, deep within me I trust in God and God’s plan. Though today it seems like I have run into a dead end, God’s purpose will be fulfilled.
I believe it is important to share and speak of the difficult moments we endure as well as the joy of the miracles we receive. Every new morning signals an invitation for us to be grateful for at least one thing, to trust in God’s promises and not to lose heart. After all, God protected Daniel in the lions’ den (see Dan. 6:23), watched over Joseph when his brothers threw him into a well (see Gen. 37), and brought Jonah out of the great fish (see Jon. 2:10). Dark moments and distress will continue to test our faith, but we will be victorious when we remain anchored in our faith and seek God’s light of hope.
Today’s Prayer
Light of the world, guide us with love through each day. As you help us move forward, we pray with confidence and renewed hope the prayer Jesus taught us: “Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation” (Luke 11:2-4, NIV). Amen.
Thought for the Day
God’s light will shine through any darkness.
