Scripture Union Daily Guide (February 13, 2025) OUTLINE:
John the Baptist preaches a new beginning. He had a radical message. We must not continue living the same way and expect different results. Note the response to his message Matthew 3:7,15-16). Why? Christ’s great love and saving grace brings into God’s Kingdom family all kinds of people, including those who we least expect will look for changed lives and new beginnings (Matthew 3:7-10). We must all pursue lifestyles of godliness in keeping with repentance and fruitfulness (Matthew 3:8-10).
John announces Jesus and His coming public ministry (Matthew 3:11-12). Note his humility in relation to Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:11; see also John 3:27-31). He was such a powerful servant of God and rightly in God’s Kingdom service, he supremely projected Jesus Christ (see John 1:29; John 3:27-31).
Is Jesus Christ held supreme and central in all things in your church and in your personal life and ministry? Sadly, some Pastors and Church leaders make themselves “central” in Church life. Others make money the “central” thing in Church life, pushing Jesus, the Head of the Church, to the sides or periphery.
The baptism of Jesus is unique – it shows His perfect obedience in which He fulfils all righteousness. At His baptism, God the Father acknowledges Him as His beloved son (Matthew 3:17).
