TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Numbers 13:21-33
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
â–º Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide (February 11, 2025) OUTLINE
The twelve spies came back from their courageous exploration of the land with their reports. Notice how the first part of their observation confirms what God had said about the land in Exodus 3:8. Our God faithfully keeps His promises (Numbers 23:19).
Unfortunately, the majority brought to Moses and the community a discouraging conclusion (Numbers 13:28-29,31-33). Though this majority report was seemingly accurate, notice the exaggerations which were designed to instil fear into the people. The land devours its people and yet they met giants there (Numbers 13:27, compare Numbers 13:32). Surprising! Also, compare their statement in Numbers 13:33 with Numbers 13:29. Their focus, unfortunately, was on their fear and inability and not on God.
Thank God for the Caleb and Joshua who do not allow potential difficulties to blind their eyes to God’s power to achieve the impossible through His people. The giants are ever present, but with absolute faith in our God, we can ‘go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it’ (Numbers 13:30). Compare Caleb’s declaration with that of David in 1 Samuel 17:4-7,45-47 and be encouraged to trust the Lord as you face difficult situations in your own life.
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
CLOSING PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me the faith and courage of Caleb to focus on you and your power and never on the giants facing me.
