Psalm 34:15-18
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. – Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
Today’s Message
In 2009, my grandmother died of tuberculosis. I felt numb and weak with grief, but I couldn’t cry until the burial day. I felt heavy watching the pallbearers lower her casket into the ground — I hated the idea of my grandmother being left all alone. I burst into uncontrollable tears and questioned God. But Tim, my older brother, gave me his shoulder to cry on. As if he knew my thoughts, he said, “It’s okay, she is with the Lord now — safe and happy.” I felt consoled that she wasn’t alone.
Tim showed great consideration and selflessness by comforting me even though he was grieving too. Through Tim, God helped me to grieve. That experience reminds me that when I am feeling strong and emotionally stable, I have a responsibility to be considerate of those who may be more vulnerable or hurting.
God responded to my worry that day through Tim, whose words were exactly what I needed to hear. In that moment, I felt consoled, knowing that God had been with me all along.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord, help us to be considerate of the needs of others. May we be their source of comfort and encouragement so that through us they can experience your unfailing grace. Amen.
Thought for the Day
Through me, God can offer strength and support to others.
