BIBLE VERSE FOR TODAY: Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. – James 5:13
O God of Bethel, God of my fathers, be my God. Bless me, make Your face to shine upon me, and be gracious unto me. Lift up the light of Your countenance upon me, and give me Your peace. I would not dare go out into the great world this morning, if I did not have You to go with me. But You are everywhere. Where can I go from Your presence? Into whatever corner of the earth I might be cast — I will see You bending over me.
Nothing can separate me from Your love! No power can snatch me out of Your hand! I will go out from the shelter of my happy home, into a world filled with dangers — but I do not fear, for I shall be with You wherever I may go.
I consecrate myself now to You. You have redeemed me, and I am Yours. I recognize Your claim, Your rightful ownership in me — and present myself to You as freewill offerings. Yet I know how hard it is to give myself to You, for my evil hearts keep drawing me away continually. Take me then, O God — for I cannot give myself to You. In temptation, may You shelter me, and let me not sink away into destruction. If I come under the power of evil — may You lead me safely through it. Save me from all that would dishonor You or hurt my own life.
I ask for grace to make this a holy day. Help me to do our common tasks, in a way that will please You. Save me . . .
from indolence,
from covetousness,
from all neglect of duty,
from all evil tempers or feelings,
and from all resentments.
Help me to be patient toward all men, to be forbearing, kind, thoughtful, courteous, loving, and prayerful. Guard me, and bring me home at nightfall in peace. I ask all in the name of Jesus our Redeemer. Amen.
