It was starting out to be a bad day! I got up early to walk the dogs. They weren’t listening. Next thing I knew, I was chasing them in my pajamas! Breakfast? I burned the French toast and spilled the syrup. I got Austin to school on time and decided to swing into a drive-thru carwash. I rolled down my window to pay, pulled in – and forgot to roll it up.
If I was one of the seven dwarfs, I’d have been Grumpy.
It was certainly nothing major, but isn’t it just like the enemy to steal our joy over, “the little foxes that spoil the vines” (Song of Songs 2:15)? I prayed, “Lord, I really don’t want to have a bad day.” I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Worship your way through it.”
The interesting thing about worship is that we have to take our eyes off of everything and everyone else, including ourselves, and focus on God. It takes discipline to throw off everything that hinders us, but when we do, peace comes and joy returns.
Father, I want to worship my way through this and every day. As obstacles arise, as frustrations grow, will You help me refocus my attention and reorient my affections to You? Joy is in Your presence! I long for You.
