This psalm is a prayer of someone who has suffered possibly prolonged sickness (v.15) and has turned to tell God the problem as he felt and considered his agonizing pain. Notice to whom he directed his prayers (vs.1&2) and how often he did this (vs.1b,9&13). We must always turn to God in prayer, especially when we face challenges, and trust Him to hear us (1 John 5:14&15).
Read vs.3-5a, 8b-9&15 and note how the psalmist described his condition which suggests a state of helplessness, being overwhelmed and in despair. Take note of “you” and “your” in vs.6-8a, 15-16&18. He felt his suffering was the consequence of God’s anger. Vs.7&16 state: “Your wrath lies heavily upon me”;
“Your wrath has swept over me.” Some sufferings are indeed God’s judgment, and the psalmist acknowledges this, “in faithfulness you have afflicted me” (Psalm 119:75-77). He then prayed for comfort and mercy from the Lord. No matter how low we feel, we can always take our problems to God and express our anguish to Him. He forgives and heals.

Action: Perhaps, you are not afflicted but you know someone who is. Consider being a prayer companion for that person.

Closing Prayer
Lord, there are many around me who are hurting and need your touch. Please make me a channel of your love to bring hope and peace to some.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Exodus 4:12
“Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”
