TOPIC: Loving Guidance
TODAY’S READING
Luke 19:1-10
The Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost. – Luke 19:10 (NRSVUE)
TODAY’S MESSAGE
Once when I was young, I spotted a ripe mango high in our tree and climbed to get it — a common practice in my village. But when I was high up, the branch I was standing on broke. I grabbed a branch above my head but was unable to get a foothold. Seeing me hanging there, a group of men rushed over and encouraged me to let go, promising to catch me. But I couldn’t let go.
Then my brother climbed the tree and reached out to me, calmly telling me to stretch my leg toward him. He supported my leg as I moved closer, and then he placed my foot on the stump of the broken branch. With his support and encouragement, I climbed down safely.
In today’s scripture story, Zacchaeus was not physically in danger, but he was lost — socially and spiritually isolated and far from God. He needed a savior to guide him back to God. When Jesus saw Zacchaeus in the sycamore tree, he reached out to him and showed him a new way to live.
We all need a loving and supportive guide to help us. How encouraging it is to know that Jesus finds us wherever we are and offers loving support, gently empowering and guiding us.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Loving God, thank you for calling us to you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Open our hearts to receive your support and guidance at all times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
No matter where I am, Jesus is reaching out to me.
