TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:1-11
Question(s) for Reflection
Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Why did Paul say he did not need to write to the Thessalonians on this subject in v.1? It is because he had already taught them what Jesus Christ said about it in Matthew 24:42-44. Still, he writes to them by way of a reminder. We too need to be reminded of the things that God has already instructed us in His word. That is the purpose of our daily Bible reading, going over passages we already knew before.
Is there a danger that, in spite of all the warnings we already have, the Day can surprise us and find us sleeping and unprepared? Strange as it may sound, the things that can lull us to sleep as Christians include Christian activities! This was the warning which Jesus Christ gives in Matthew 7:21-23.
V.6 here encourages us to be both “awake” and “sober.” What can help us to be alert and prepared at all times (vs.8,11) include items in the list of “the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:13-17) as well as fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:25).
